Jewish Faces of Russia

A Photography Exhibition by Keith Levit

"This woman and her husband are very grateful to the Joint Distribution Committee for the hot meals and the medical support they provide. Her husband is confined to bed in the couple's bedroom and was a silent, bearded, gaunt figure. The woman is not well-versed in her Jewish background, but is very well-read and articulate. She spoke French fluently and was very interested in art. Notice on her table a picture of the Kotel and a bottle of Tylenol. Westerners are asked to bring medications when they visit private homes. She was very proud to have visitors and reciprocated by giving us each a silk handkerchief."
